For those of us who are active in the world of cryptocurrencies, it’s not uncommon to find ourselves using multiple blockchains. Whether it’s for the purpose of trading, investing, or simply exploring different opportunities, it’s important to have the flexibility to move funds between different networks.

I still see a lot of people using the traditional way to move funds between blockchains which is to send their funds back to a centralized exchange and then withdraw them to their preferred blockchain. However, this process can be time-consuming and costly due to the high gas fees involved.

However, with the rise of blockchain bridges, sending funds between different networks has become much simpler and more efficient. By using a bridge, users can move their funds from one blockchain to another without having to go through a centralized exchange. This means that the process is faster, cheaper, and more secure.

One example of a blockchain bridge is Orbiter.finance which will be the focus of this article, but there are many other great bridges such as ChainHop, Wormhole, Synapse, and many others.

Basically, by using a bridge you can send the Ethereum that you already have on Arbitrum to Optimism or the USDC you have on Binance Smart Chain to ZkSync, and so on and so forth.

Let me show you how it works.

I will be using Orbiter Finance for this example, but the process is similar to all the other bridges.

  1. We first go to orbiter.finance, then connect our wallet.

2. Choose the token (funds) to be sent. Currently, you can choose from ETH, USDC, USDT, and DAI.

Other bridges might have a wider range of tokens

3. First row (from) we choose the network we want to send from.

Currently, we can choose from various blockchains like

  • Ethereum
  • Arbitrum One
  • Arbitrum Nova
  • Optimism
  • Polygon
  • Polygon ZkEvm
  • Starknet
  • Zksync Lite
  • Zksync Era
  • Binance Smart Chain
  • Immutable X
  • Loopring

4. Second row (to) we choose the network we want to receive the funds.

5. Select the amount of tokens you want to send. In the example I am using ETH

6. Click “send” to confirm the transaction on MetaMask

7. You’ll get a confirmation like the picture below

That’s it, it was that easy.

Depending on the blockchain, it might take a few seconds or a few minutes for a slower blockchain like Ethereum

The fees will also vary from blockchain to blockchain and depending on how high are the gas fees that specific time of the day.

Pro tip: Orbiter Finance is a tokenless project, therefore by using it we might receive an airdrop if they decided to launch their token.
